Buffalo man charged after attempting to leave the scene of a crash; striking building in Elma

ELMA, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Sheriff's Office says a Buffalo man has been arrested after he attempted to leave the scene of a crash in Elma, and then striking a building with his vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies say 22-year-old Mason Rai crashed his car at 7070 Seneca Street in Elma when he then attempted to flee the scene almost crashing into the tow truck that arrived, ultimately crashing into a building at 7100 Seneca Street.

When deputies attempted to interview Rai they found him to be intoxicated and his BAC level was more than twice the legal limit upon testing him.

Rai was charged with the following

  • Aggravated DWI – BAC more than .18 percent
  • Operating a vehicle with a BAC more than .08 percent
  • Unsafe backing of a vehicle
  • Speeding

Rai was released to a sober third party and was issued an appearance ticket.
