BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Western New York will be well-represented at the Miss New York pageant this weekend.
Buffalo native Erica Luciano is in the running for that coveted title. She recently graduated with a degree in Biology, which is how she decided she wanted to raise awareness on the climate crisis.
How will she do that? She realized having a platform like Miss New York will help her get involved and raise support for environmental organizations like Re-Tree WNY.
She decided in September to join the pageant and has been preparing ever since. This is her first pageant. She says she's grateful for the support she's getting here at home.
"It's so great hearing the support that I'm getting from people that I've met or people that are just hearing about what I'm doing that are supporting me. So I think the hard part is going to be executing it and making all these people proud and hopefully be able to follow my passion," says Erica.
The pageant takes place Saturday and Sunday January 18th-19th. There is a fan vote, you can donate to the cause in exchange for voting for who you want to be crowned Miss New York USA.
