BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Police are investigating their first deadly crash just hours after the new year.

According to police, officers responded to the call around 2:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Franklin Street.

Investigators say a Chevrolet Mailbu was traveling north on Franklin Street, when the vehicle left the road and hit a fire hydrant, a parked vehicle and then a light pole.

Police say a man in his 40s was taken to Erie County Medical Center where he later died. Police say the man was not the driver, but the passenger in the car.

Investigators believe there may have been other people in the vehicle, who ran from the scene. Police have the car in custody, and are searching for the driver.

A source tells 7 Eyewitness News the car was reported stolen around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Buffalo Police are asking anyone with information to call them.
