BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Police are investigating an officer involved incident that happened early Monday morning at the EZ Wash Laundromat on Delaware and Hertel.

Police say around 2:00 a.m. an employee of the laundromat called for a man trespassing on the premises. Buffalo PD say when officers arrived, the employee was there requesting a man leave the area. According to sources, the man seemed to be homeless and was sleeping in the business.

According to police, the man, who they've identified as 31 year-old John Barker complied when asked to leave, but then came back and began threatening the employee with a sharp piece of wood.

"One of the officers went in to the laundromat and tackled him to the ground to disarm him. In doing so, the suspect hit his head and is currently in the ICU," said Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo.

Rinaldo says Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.

Barker has been charged with burglary, menacing, obstruction and criminal possession of a weapon.
