BATAVIA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Catherine Weatherbee of Batavia left work at United Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday with one thought in mind.

“I hope the cab shows up,” she said laughing.

But what showed up instead was a little better — a new car.

With the help of nurses and Facebook donors, Dr. Nicholas Loffredo was able to gift Weatherbee her new car.

“We did a GoFundMe online, and literally, in a matter of days we had more than enough money to purchase this vehicle for her,” Dr. Loffredo said.

Loffredo said the GoFundMe received so much money that they had to raise the donation amount.

“She’s just loved by everybody," Loffredo said of Weatherbee, who works as a secretary on the third floor of the medical center.

The car was a belated birthday gift. Weatherbee turned 60 back in December. But a week before her birthday, she tested positive for COVID-19.

“And it might have been from the cab that she was taking to work everyday,” Dr. Loffredo said.

But now, none of them have to worry about that because Weatherbee has her own ride. And though its been two years since she's gotten behind a wheel, she’s ready to hit the road.

“You dont know how much I appreciate it,” she said.
