CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — It's a push to make sure mothers on the front lines have a special Mother's Day.

Two college students who went to high school in Western New York are teaming up.

Gregory Prentiss and Julia Cornwell are raising money to feed the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital on Mother's Day.

St. Joe's is the hospital Catholic Health has dedicated to treating COVID-19 patients.

Gregory wanted to do something to treat all the moms there on Mother's Day, and also to help a local restaurant.

So he teamed up with his friend Julia who works at D'Avolio restaurant.

"I feel bad for the workers who can't be with their families because they're working these long shifts trying to fight the virus," Prentiss said. "So we're just trying to lift their spirits as much as we can. I know it's only food, but we hope this can bring them some happiness on Mother's Day when they can't be with their families."

"Even D'Avolio, the owner of D'Avolio, when I told him what we wanted to do he was so happy about it that he's also going to contribute a generous donation as well to this entire order," Cornwell said. "Because the money may be going to him to help supply the food but he also wanted to be able to give back."

If the two meet their fundraising goal, the staff at the hospital will get lunch boxes from D'Avolios with half a sandwich, slices of pizza and a salad.

You can find their Go Fund Me page here. They're more than half-way to their goal.
