BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo strong is a way of life for the Western New York Community.
“There’s a lot of heart here,” Carol Gunnersen said of her Western New York neighbors.
Tuesday marked the "Day of Giving" where 7 Eyewitness News pledged $12,000 to FeedMore Western New York. Western New Yorkers came together to match that and raised over $15,000.
Neighbors also donated 2,538 pounds of food during 7 Eyewitness News’ renewed push to help the organization. Donations were made both in person through food drives at Dash’s Market on Hertel in North Buffalo and in Hamburg at the Fairgrounds Event Center and online.
Combined with the Buffalo Strong Campaign, Western New York has raised more than $100,000 for FeedMore WNY.
Since March, the organization distributed almost five million pounds of food throughout the region from its warehouse alone. A week in June saw 30,000 meals delivered.
“As much as our team has really been working day and night to meet the need, our community has stood up beside us,” Tara Ellis, President and CEO of FeedMore WNY, said.
Although the Day of Giving may be over, the need does not stop. FeedMore WNY works every day to provide 135,000 neighbors access to nutritious food.
