Can't-miss 'Cheektavegas Griswolds' Christmas display

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — The McPhee family on Losson Road in Cheektowaga has earned a nickname over the years. They call themselves the "Cheektavegas Griswolds," and it's a nickname Danny McPhee says fits perfectly.

"Clark Griswold is crazy with his decorations. Not as much as I am though. I have to say I have more decorations than Clark!" he laughed.

In fact, his lawn has become a holiday destination for many Western New York families because of Danny's Christmas inflatables display. He's got 43 of them set up on his front yard.

"My wife thinks I have too many inflatables. There's never enough though!" said Danny.

"Christmas pukes on our house," laughed his wife Vicky.

Every year, Danny spends a week in November putting up his display. And every year, it gets bigger and bigger. Inflatables come as gifts from family and friends - and he even buys one or two himself.

"He would sneak them into the house too. Into the garage. Kind of like when we shop and we keep things in the car - he would keep them in the garage!" laughed Vicky.

It's not a cheap holiday tradition. The electricity bill is $600 in December and $500 in January. Still, Danny says it's the joy it brings others that keeps him doing it year after year.

"We've got three generations. People saying when they were kids their parents brought them here to look at the lights. Now they're bringing their kids to look at the lights. It's kind of cool. Makes you feel good."
