BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a skyway redesign competition that would award the winner $100,00 and their design selected.

Gov. Cuomo hopes to have a winner selected in the next six months.

The state has a panel designated to working and voting on the best design. Among panel members is Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

Cuomo says depending on the design selected the skyway could stay up or down. If it stays up, Cuomo says the designs could be much like the highline in New York City, full of green space and walk-ability.

"Let's get the best ideas out there," he said.

Currently, the skyway is undergoing major rennovations that Cuomo says "need to be done for safety reasons."
