DARIEN CENTER, N.Y. (WKBW) — While summer in Western New York is kicking into full gear, many popular summer attractions remain closed because of the coronavirus.
No opening date has been announced yet for Six Flags Darien Lake. Melissa Hoffman of Buffalo bought three season passes to the park as a Christmas gift for her children. Now, she is trying to get a nearly $200 refund.
“They’re not providing the services that they have offered that I signed up for," Hoffman said.
When Six Flags does open, it will operate at limited capacity. All guests will have to make online reservations, and season pass holders will get priority.
Guests will also see new safety measures.
Hoffman has a compromised immune system, and explained that to Six Flags.
“I just don’t want to risk it," Hoffman said. "And I don’t want to risk the health of my kids as well, especially with so many unknowns right now.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for Darien Lake said it will work with people in extreme circumstances. Season pass holders can email sfdlseasonpass@sftp.com.
“While we hope that our guests will give us the opportunity to show them that we have a comprehensive safety plan in place, we certainly understand that there may be some extraordinary or extreme situations, and we will work with those individuals to find a solution that works for them.”
7 Eyewitness News asked if any ticket holders were eligible for a refund. The park responded saying season pass holders will receive free days in 2021 for every day the park is closed this year.
“Our Season Pass Holders and our Members are some of our most loyal and valued guests and we want them to feel that they are getting the value for their passes and memberships For our current 2020 Season Pass Holders, their Passes will be extended into 2021 for the number of operating days the park is temporarily closed. Our Members will receive one additional month for each month that the park is closed, plus a free Membership level upgrade for the rest of the 2020 Season with our Diamond Elite Members receiving triple points and one extra skipped ride each visit for the rest of 2020 plus one Golden Friend ticket they can use whenever they want. Additionally, our Members and Season Pass Holders will receive priority bookings for our new online reservation system.”
Hoffman said she bought the tickets for 2020, not 2021.
“If I’d like passes for next summer then I’ll purchase them, but I’m a single mother and I need that money now.
