Amherst Police surround home in tactical gear after responding to domestic incident

AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Amherst Police surrounded a home on the 4800 block of North Bailey Avenue between Maple Road and Sheridan Drive in tactical gear after responding to a domestic incident.

The incident began around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police said officers responded and a man fled the home. Patrols and an NFTA K9 searched the surrounding neighborhood but the man was not found.

They remained in the area and around 4:30 a.m. the man allegedly got back in the house through a rear window. A perimeter was established and the department's Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

Police said the victim and two children were able to safely exit the home and after a search, the man was found hiding in the attic and taken into custody.

Police identified the man as Rayquell Grant of Amherst and said he was charged with first-degree criminal contempt, criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.
