LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WKBW) — An hours-long hostage situation Saturday in Lackawanna ended with an arrest.

Police said the incident, which took place at a home near the corner of Lebanon Street and Steelawanna Avenue in Lackawanna, began when 27-year-old Christopher Marchese beat his 42-year-old female significant other for two hours before authorities arrived on scene.

Marchese also threw an 8-month-old baby girl onto a bed during the beating, police said.

The woman, who has visible injuries, was choked until she was unconscious, police said.

SWAT, Erie County Sheriff's deputies, and Lackawanna officers worked for almost five hours attempting to diffuse the situation. At one point, tear gas was deployed.

Marchese eventually gave the infant to the 42-year-old woman, and allowed them to leave the house, police said. Marchese exited shortly after.

Marchese is currently in police custody and facing the following charges: unlawful imprisonment, criminal obstruction, resisting arrest, assault 3rd degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

In a closed arraignment, Marchese is being held on $20,000 bail at the Erie County Holding Center. His charges range from endangering a child to resisting arrest

The 8-month-old was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital. Her relation to the 42-year-old woman is still unknown.
