VILLAGE OF MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — The "do not drink" water advisory put in place earlier this month in the Village of Mayville has been lifted.

Village health leaders, along with Chautauqua County and the state, said in a release early Thursday that the village's Well #4 is now online and there are no detectable levels of PFNA, a chemical that may be harmful in large quantities.

The village was placed under a "do not drink" advisory on December 10, after heightened levels of PFNA were found in three of the village's wells. Health officials in Mayville say additional engineering measures are being taken to maximize the use of Well #4 to meet the needs of the Village and ensure the levels of PFNA are lower in the municipal storage tank.

The water system will continue to be monitored on a weekly basis and results will be made available to the public.
