VILLAGE OF CORFU, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a small plane crash in the Village of Corfu.
According to the FAA, a single-engine Socata TBM-700 crashed in a wooded area off Boyce Road near Genesee Street, west of Batavia, at 11:45 a.m.
Investigators say two people-- a man and woman-- were on board the plane. They were killed in the crash. Their names have not been released.
The plane is described by investigators as disintegrated, leaving a large crater in the wooded area where it crashed. The plane had been flying back to Buffalo from New Hampshire at the time of the crash.
Neighbors reported hearing the engine making noise as if it were cutting in and out before the crash.
The Batavia Daily News reportedMercy Flight landed near the scene, then took off and hovered near the woods before landing a second time.
Deputies from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office are currently at the scene, along with New York State Police, and firefighters from Corfu and East Pembroke.
