Elma man accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend with crossbow

UPDATE: 61-year-old Frank Litterio was arraigned in Erie County Court on Monday on an indictment charging him with one count of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to return on February 13 for a pre-trial conference and continues to be held without bail.

ORIGINAL: The Erie County District Attorney's Office is investigating a homicide in Elma.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office said around 5 p.m. on Wednesday deputies responded to a home on the 1800 block of West Blood Road after receiving a 911 call requesting a welfare check.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered 61-year-old Frank Litterio who the sheriff's office said exhibited signs of self-inflicted wounds on his neck, wrists, and chest.

The sheriff's office said 62-year-old Jill Harris was found on the couch in the living room and was killed by three arrows shot from a crossbow.

Litterio is accused of shooting Harris with the crossbow. He was arraigned on one count of second-degree murder on Friday and remains at ECMC in a secure unit.

He is scheduled to return on January 29 for a felony hearing and was held without bail. If convicted of the charge, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
