BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Health Commissioner believes some non-school relate travel youth sports teams are breaking COVID-19 guidelines.
A spokesperson for the county department of health says its received complaints about youth sports teams playing in out-of-state tournaments.
“Our Department of Health is required to research these and if they determine that there's violations of the rules, fines can be administered,” said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
Most local youth organizations are not traveling out of state, like Delaware Soccer Club. The furthest any of their teams have gone this year is Syracuse.
The county is asking for anyone who knows of teams traveling out of state to report them to the department of health. An organization violating COVID-19 restrictions could face thousands in dollars of fines.
In the video of this story the soccer club WNY Flash is shown. This is file video. The club says since restrictions have been put in place, they have canceled all out of state games.
