BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Following last weekends protests held outside Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz' home, a security detail will now be used to ensure his safety.

The County Executive's office confirmed to 7 Eyewitness News that a security detail was suggested to be used after they say threats were received.

"All you have to do is check out social media," the County Executive said, "We have had others."

These threats and protests come as many are angered with the current closure of businesses due to COVID-19 protocols.

"Not everyone is happy about the rules," Poloncarz said, "some are a little more active in their critiques of me."

7 Eyewitness News reached out to the Erie County Sheriff's Office for information on the detail, they responded saying "The Sheriff’s Office maintains that the agency will not confirm, deny, or discuss security measures or details."
