Erie County Sheriff's Office warning of phone scam involving deputies

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Have you been receiving strange calls from someone claiming to be with the Erie County Sheriff's Office? Be aware, it's a scam.

According to the Erie County Sheriff, a phone scam is spreading across the area with callers posing as representatives from the sheriff’s office, trying to obtain personal information using "various means and scenarios." These calls are not coming from the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone who receives a call from (716) 687-8427, they are urged to ignore the call and any voice message left on the device. As always with scams, do not provide personal information and hang up the phone.
