FBI names new special agent in charge in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced Stephen Belongia has been named as the special agent in charge of the Buffalo Field Office.

Belongia comes to Buffalo from Washington, D.C. where he served as the section chief of Cyber Readiness at FBI Headquarters.

He joined the FBI in 1997 investigating criminal and counterterrorism matters in Phoenix. In 2010 he was promoted to supervisor of a Phoenix white-collar crime squad and later led a counterterrorism squad.

In 2011 he served a temporary assignment in Iraq and in 2013 he investigated various matters in Nairobi, Kenya.

Belongia returned from Nairobi and was transferred to the Human Resources Division at FBI Headquarters. In 2017 he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Tampa Field Office in Florida.

In 2019 Belongia was promoted to section chief of Cyber Readiness at FBI Headquarters.
