WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A man is in police custody after a five-hour long standoff in West Seneca.
Just before 3 in the morning on Monday, police were called to a home on Seneca Street after a woman called police to report that her boyfriend was making threats while carrying a large butcher knife inside the residence. According to police, the woman locked herself and her two-year-old child inside the bathroom of the home.
When police arrived on the scene, they were able to get the woman and the child out of the house via a second story window while other officers made contact with the man. Police say the man remained inside the home, armed with a knife. Police did attempt to use a Taser on the man but say the attempt was unsuccessful.
For five hours, police talked with the man using a Crisis Intervention Team before he put the knife down, walked out of the home and surrendered to officers.
The 25-year-old man was taken into custody and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
