BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The former owner of Classic Fence & Lumber convicted of scamming customers out of thousands of dollars will not go to jail.

In State Supreme Court on Monday, 74-year-old Frederick DeNormand was sentenced to five years of probation.

DeNormand admitted that between May and September of 2017, he accepted payments from more than 50 customers to install fences and never showed up to do the job. His company has since been shut down.

As part of his plea, he agreed to pay back the $138,573 he owed to the victims. So far, he's paid back about $25,000. The judge also ordered DeNormand to write letters of apology to all of the victims as part of his probation.
