SANBORN, N.Y. (WKBW) — Former Pekin Fire Company President Lawrence Amacher Jr., 49, of Sanborn, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly pocketing funds from the company's bell jar collection.

New York State Police say Amacher Jr. allegedly took $1,800 from the company's bell jar account. As president he oversaw the fire company’s games of chance, which was used to raise funds.

Police say he also falsely submitted the required New York State Gaming Commission reports in 2014 and 2015 which misrepresented his use of the funds.

According to an investigation by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli's office, Amacher Jr. pocketed the cash for his own use.

“Mr. Amacher literally had his hands in the public till,” said DiNapoli. “Thanks to my investigators working with the New York State Police, he is now being held accountable for his actions.”

Amacher Jr. was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, falsify business records first degree and offering a false instrument for filing first degree, all felonies. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.
