BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A pioneer in Western New York politics, and a local leader in the civil rights movement has passed away. Former Buffalo Common Council President George Arthur has died.
Arthur is remembered for his role in desegregating the Buffalo Public School District, and is work with local organizations like the Buffalo Control Board, Nash House and Pine Grill Reunion.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown released a statement, saying in part: "George K. Arthur was a change maker and inspiration to generations of Buffalonians, please join me in extending your prayers to his family."
