CLARENCE, N.Y. (WKBW) — The generosity of some local students is now helping their peers half a world away.
Students from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School in Clarence raised money to help purchase new latrines and a water tank at a school in Katende, Uganda.
Children from St. Maria Goretti school sent this video thanking their friends for their kindness.
According to Father Ronald Sajdak, seventh grade students at Nativity were inspired to act after reading the book, "A Long Walk to Water", by Linda Sue Park. Through the group Reaching Out 2 Africa, they then had the opportunity to meet and speak with some of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan. As a result, the students launched fundraising efforts to help make this purchase possible.
