BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Kathy Hochul is looking to change the age requirement for corrections officers.
Right now, you need to be at least 21 years old to be a corrections officer but the governor wants that age lowered to 18.
Governor Hochul says the younger hires would not have guns and only take part in supervised activities.
The governor says this could help with staffing issues by getting more people into the pipeline.
You can hear what the governor said to reporters in Albany about the proposal and why some republican lawmakers are suspicious of it in the video at the top of the page.
