HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — A new Amazon distribution facility will receive tax incentives from Hamburg.

The Hamburg Industrial Development Agency held a meeting Tuesday evening. Members voted, six to three, to approve nearly $7 million in tax incentives for the project.

According to the Hamburg IDA, construction on the $47 million facility will begin in March 2021 and occupancy is expected early 2022. It is expected to add 75 jobs.

“I am pleased with the Board’s decision, “says Hamburg IDA Executive Director Sean Doyle. “The IDA Members weighed information through the public input process and made a decision that was in the best interest to solidify the Town’s tax base and move the community forward.”

Some lawmakers have spoken in opposition of the project.

According to the Hamburg IDA, "the PILOT incentive offered to Bayview Associates and Amazon will generate tax and special district payments of over $1,324,000 in the next 10 years based on current tax rates. In this 10 – year period the project will generate over $36 Million in new wages for the construction jobs and Amazon employees."
