BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A new year means setting new goals. You might opt to hit the gym, but more people are moving toward group fitness.

"Group fitness is so popular, you see studios popping up everywhere...people want to do this together," said Stefanie Martinelli, an instructor at Bike or Bar on Elmwood.

Bike or Bar was supposed to be closed on New Year's Day, but Stefanie asked her boss if they could open anyway, so she could teach a few classes.

It can be costly, but some say it's worth it.

"It's a little bit more expensive than a regular gym, but I think it's worth it. You're more likely to see results," said Teresa Gerth, who came with her sister to their first step class.

If you're not sure which group fitness class is best for you, Gerth uses an app called Class Pass. It's a fitness subscription that gives you access to different studios in our area.

And it's free for the first month to start the new year.
