ELMA, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is saying to beware of these fliers that may be left outside your door.
The Erie County Blotter has put out a scam alert out for the Elma area, but comments on the 7 Eyewitness News Facebook post indicate these papers have appeared in the Southern Tier and Niagara County as well . They say someone is leaving these fake notes as an attempt to get you to buy water softening product that is overpriced.
The Erie Co. Blotter says to throw out the fake delivery alert notice if you receive one.
7 Eyewitness News called the number to find it was a call to Impact Distribution. A representative indicated it was a water awareness company that performs tests to assess water quality. She said the missed package is a free gift card from the company that is given once they assess a home's water quality.
7 Eyewitness News also searched online for the company's website, but could not find one.
If you receive one of these notes, you can report it as a scam to the BBB using their scam tracker.
