Hispanic Heritage Council announces $10 million institute coming to Niagara Street

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Hispanic Heritage Council announced Niagara and Hudson Streets will be the home of a new $10 million Hispanic Cultural Institute.

The institute currently operates out of a small space in the Erie County Central Library, the new institute would include;

  • A museum documenting the history of the local Hispanic community
  • A 150-seat theater which would showcase local Latino artists and companies
  • A broadcast TV and radio lab
  • Learning labs to host workshops and educational programs

The project is backed by Buffalo Public Schools, the Buffalo Common Council, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Rep. Brian Higgins. It is expected to be funded by state and local government as well as local foundations, corporations and individual donors.
