BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns (R) says flyers with the ICE tip line will be posted at Erie County Auto Bureaus.

This comes as New York State Legislature passed the Green Light Law. The bill allows undocumented workers to apply for a New York State driver's license.

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles began installing devices at Erie County Auto Bureaus officials say help authenticate documents. However, according to Kearns, the machines cannot verify documents without the federal government.

"When we met with law enforcement yesterday, they conveyed to us that there is no machine that can authenticate foreign documents without the input of the federal government," Kearns told 7 Eyewitness News in an interview.

A spokesperson with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles says those claims are not true-- and that the devices have passed tests in detecting fake documents. Kearns says he wants anyone who sees something suspicious to say something and call the confidential homeland security tip line.

The Green Light Law goes into place Saturday, December 14.
