SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred on the I-90 westbound in the Town of Sheridan Monday afternoon just after 1 p.m.
The crash occurred at mile marker 462.6, between Exits 58 and 59 in Chautauqua County, state police say the crash involved 33-year-old Trooper Stephen Barker's vehicle and another vehicle with five people inside.
Police say Barker was responding to the report of a property damage accident and failed to observe the vehicle in front of him slowing down due to traffic and struck the vehicle.
Two of the five in the vehicle, 66-year-old George Cole of Arcade and 70-year-old Timothy McCann of Depew, suffered serious injuries.
Cole and McCann were airlifted to ECMC, Cole is listed in serious condition and McCann in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Trooper Barker and the other three occupants were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The westbound lanes of the Thruway were closed for four and a half hours during the investigation.
