DALE, NY (WKBW-TV) — It's a small building with a big history. The Dale Post Office may be tiny but it features everything the big post offices have with the added feature of being the smallest post office in New York State.
"We actually have tourists that come from out of state to see this post office." according to Attica postmaster Dan Kinyon. Dan overseas the Dale post office. Jennifer Bow runs the place. In 1988 her mother designed the 150th anniversary stamp, still used today.
There have been a number of post cards commemorating the Dale, Post Office over the years, and a number of changes to the building. Before the addition of a restroom in 2004, employees had to use the facilities at the church across the street.
Clara Swift is remembered with a memorial garden as one of the special postmasters in Dale. She served from 1972 until 1989 and lived right across the street.
Dan says that there are forty thousand post offices nationwide. The Dale post office is the eighth smallest on that list, but it continues to top the list as the number one smallest in New York State.
