WASHINGTON (WKBW) — 25-year-old Jessica Pegula, the daughter of Bills and Sabres owners Kim and Terry Pegula won her first career WTA singles tournament title, winning the Citi Open in Washington on Sunday.
The Buffalo native defeated Italian Camila Giorgi in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, earning $43,000 in prize money.
"It's been extremely gratifying," Pegula said, in her post-match press conference. "I mean, this is what you work for, to win tournaments and to just win, basically."

Pegula reached the singles final last year in Quebec City, but was more than happy to get the victory of the weekend in her home country.

Pegula is ranked 79th in the world but her ranking is expected to climb back up following the win.
