WASHINGTON (WKBW) — A local mail carrier will be honored in Washington on Wednesday, after she saved a 10-year-old boy from being run over by a lawnmower in Lewiston.

Theresa Jo Belkota is one of six mail carriers in the country to receive an honor from National Association of Letter Carriers, earning the, "Eastern Region Hero," for 2019.

In June of 2018, Belkota used her shirt to stop the boy from bleeding, along with calling 911 which helped save his life.

The boy's family describes her as a "superhero neighbor," for saving his life.

Belkota says, "all of this to divine intervention and divine providence. I’m just a mailman.”
