BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Michael William Fisher will be installed as the next Bishop of the Buffalo Diocese on Friday afternoon.
You'll be able to watch the installation beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Friday on 7ABC and on 7 Plus.
Fisher comes to the Diocese of Buffalo as the former Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Washington.
The 62-year-old Baltimore native is the eldest of five and replaces interim bishop Edward Scharfenberger who stepped in after former bishop Richard Malone resigned in December 2019 after his mishandling of sexual abuse within the Buffalo Diocese made national attention.
Fisher told 7 Eyewitness News Anchor Ashley Rowe that he wants to speak with survivors of sex abuse within the diocese.
This AM I sat down with Bishop Michael William Fisher, the incoming Bishop of Buffalo’s Catholic diocese. More to come, but one takeaway from our interview is that Bishop Fisher wants to speak with sex abuse survivors & the priest who blew the whistle on the sex abuse cover up.
