OTTO, N.Y. (WKBW) — UPDATE: The Otto Fire Department says a woman is dead following a fire that destroyed a home in Otto early Thursday morning.

The Otto Volunteer Fire Department says it responded to the fire on North Otto Road just before 3:00 a.m.

Mutual aid was requested to help battle the fire.

Otto Fire Chief Anthony Riehle says one of the people hospitalized was taken to ECMC, two children were taken to Oishei Children's Hospital. Riehle described the scene when he pulled up.

"On location, there was - I presume to be the owner of the house - a male, on the front lawn with a couple of young kids. He just kept saying, 'She's upstairs! She's upstairs! She's upstairs!'" said Riehle.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a wood stove in the home. The house is a total loss. Two adjacent houses sustained minimal damage, according to the fire chief.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 5:20 a.m. but continued to work on putting it out completely.
