BUFFALO, N.Y (WKBW) — Ultima Thule, it’s the latest object in the solar system the NASA spacecraft New Horizons is checking out.

The probe just flew by the strange looking Kuiper Belt object on New Year’s Day. It is the furthest thing from earth mankind has ever documented up close; some 4.5 billion miles away.

In 2015 the spacecraft flew by Pluto.

As for New Horizons, if all goes will, it's expected to exit the solar system in 20 years. It’s only sent back blurry pictures, so far. NASA is expecting better images later this week.
