DERBY, N.Y. (WKBW) — New Era has reached an agreement with workers at its Derby plant on comprehensive severance benefits ahead of the plant's scheduled closure in March.
A source told 7 Eyewitness News that New Era has been negotiating with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) for the past couple of weeks. The agreement includes comprehensive severance benefits for employees in Derby.
"We are very grateful to all our employees for their years of service. We recognize that this is a difficult time for them and New Era is continuing to work with the New York State Department of Labor and several regional companies to help secure employment opportunities for those affected by the Derby closure," a source said in a statement released to 7 Eyewitness News.
The plant is scheduled to be closed at the end of March.
