EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WKBW) — The drunk driver who hit and seriously injured a nine-year-old girl in East Aurora was sentenced to five years probation Monday morning.
Erin Kuntz appeared in Erie County Court to be sentenced for vehicular assault charges. As part of her probation, Kuntz will have her license suspended for six months and will need court approval before reapplying for her license. She also must have an ignition interlock system installed on her car for the duration of her probation.
Kuntz was driving drunk when she hit a nine-year-old named Lily over the summer. The judge in the case explained the reasoning behind the sentence by saying that Lily's family had been very understanding, and that Kuntz took responsibility for her actions. The judge called her the "most contrite DWI defendant" the judge had ever seen.
Lily has since recovered. Kuntz will also pay a $2,000 fine.
