BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — According to the CDC, Cigarette smoking is the number one risk factor for lung cancer. Research also finds that smoking is linked to about 80-90% of lung cancer deaths.

Trying to quit smoking is not an easy thing to do. Dr. Andrew Hyland, the Chair of the Department of Health and Behavior at Roswell Park, said people try to quit multiple times in their life.

“Nicotine is pretty tough so providing some stop smoking medications can help stop the urge,” Dr. Hyland said.

The NYS Smokers Quitline has a special offer for people looking for more help if they are trying to quit. Offering a *free* three month supply of nicotinegum for cigarette smokers and vapers.

“Our goal is to distribute it to the thousands of people who can actually use it,”Paula Celestino, works in Client Relations for the NYS Smokers Quitline.

The quitline also provides help through coaching and other resources that anyone can use.
