TOWN OF PORTER (WKBW) — New York State police responded to a deadly plane crash in Niagara County on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in a field off Braley Road in the Town of Porter. Troopers say the Harmon Rocket Airplane was traveling north from Shear Airport and failed to gain proper altitude and struck trees and power lines. It crashed in a cornfield just north of Braley Road.

According to NYSP, 35-year-old Christopher M. Caruana of Grand Island was the operator and the only person on board and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Traffic Safety Board are assisting in the investigation which is ongoing.

This is the second deadly plane crash in Western New York in less than a week. On June 6 two people were killed in a plane crash after departing the runway at the Chautauqua County Jamestown Airport.
