BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The COVID-19 vaccine is available to more New Yorkers, but it could still take another several weeks before everyone in the state’s next eligibility group can get vaccinated.
“We have about 1 million doses for 4 million eligible people,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said Monday.
It all depends on the doses, distributed to the states by the federal government, Cuomo says.
Meanwhile, in Western New York, some confusion among some, like Jack Jerabek, eligible for the vaccine.
“It looks like things are a bit confused,” he said.
Jerabek says the one state site pointed him to a location in Erie County that would distribute vaccine, which was incorrect.
Erie County says it doesn’t have any point of distribution sites set up yet, and what Jerabek experienced Monday morning was a glitch on the state’s website.
“We would rather have people signed up and waiting for the vaccine then have the vaccine waiting for people,” Cuomo said.
The state wants all those eligible, such as teachers, first responders, and those 75 and older to reserve their spot for the vaccine.

Next, you can call the state’s COVID-19 vaccination hotline at 1-833-697-4829 to reserve your spot.
Right now, Erie County does not have any distribution sites or appointments available, but the county says you can sign up here to be notified of when that window opens up.
The state says people 75 and over will be primarily vaccinated at pharmacies and other sites.
Governor Cuomo says it could take about three and a half months to get through everyone in group 1A and 1B.
