EAST AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Amherst Fire Control says one person is dead and another was sent to ECMC following an early morning house fire in East Amherst Saturday.

According to Amherst Fire Control, firefighters arrived to a fire on Bramblewood Lane with one person possibly still inside around 1 a.m.

Fire investigators say 48-year-old Jeff Martens died in the fire. A 74-year-old woman identified as Cherylle Martens is now being treated for burns at the Erie County Medical Center.

A dog in the home at the time of the fire has not been located.

His girlfriend Michelle Lugo says Jeff was a kind and caring person. She says he was her "rock."

"I'm still in shock," she said. "If I needed anything, he was always there."

The damage is estimated at a total of $350,000.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but officials say it does not appear suspicious at this time.
