ORCHARD PARK, NY (WKBW-TV) — Larry Smith is a former chef with a couple of decades experience. Once a month he puts his culinary skill to work and whips up a huge batch of soup. That soup is packed up in quarts and given away at Orchard Park's Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

Pastor Stephan Mannion says its an important mission for the tiny church ""It's just a tough time right now with COVID...we just wanted to give something away-at no cost because that's what Jesus did for us on the cross."

According to Larry "It's a nice community outreach, if you need soup, if you want soup, who doesn't like soup in the middle of winter?"

The soup give-a-way takes place at Emmanuel United Methodist Church every second Sunday of the month. Pastor Stephen says that this is the third month of their soup endeavor "the amount we are giving out has increased each week" adding "we are just trying to love our community, help people in need and be a support to them."

The soup is available for no donation at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, at 7404 Ellicott Rd, Orchard Park, NY 14127, the second Sunday of the month from 11am until 1pm.

At Pastor Stephan's other church, Faith United Methodist Church, they are also giving away soup for free every third Sunday from Noon until 1:30pm
