Orchard Park man allegedly holds woman against her will inside a home

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — Orchard Park police say a man is in custody after he allegedly held a woman against her will inside in apartment Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to a home on Scherff Road after receiving a call from the woman's friend who stated the woman was being held against her will in the house.

Upon arrival officers could hear the woman yelling for help and entered the residence to find her being dragged up a staircase and restrained by a male, according to police the woman broke off banister spindles to stop from being dragged.

36-year-old Joseph Gallagher, who was allegedly holding the female against her will, let her go and fled the scene after being confronted by officers.

Police say Gallagher fled the home through a second story window and into a wooded area.

Following a search Gallagher was taken into custody after trying to enter a residence in the area of Chestnut Ridge and Gartman Roads.

Police say Gallagher violated two stay way orders of protection.

He was arraigned in Orchard Park Town Court and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center, he faces the following charges:

Second degree unlawful imprisonment
First degree criminal contempt
Second degree harassment
