NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Aquarium of Niagara has a new friend.
Niño is joining the penguin colony at the aquarium. According to the Aquarium of Niagara, Niño is a 3-year-old Humboldt penguin.
Zoo officials say Humboldt penguins are considered a threatened species. The Aquarium of Niagara works with AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums and make sure penguin populations remain healthy and diverse.
“The Aquarium of Niagara is proud to play a role in safeguarding a healthy and sustainable future for Humboldt penguins,” said Gary Siddall, Executive Director of the Aquarium of Niagara. “As the youngest penguin in our colony, Niño may play a significant role in the Species Survival Plan and in creating new generations of Humboldt penguins at the Aquarium.”
You can visit Niño at the Aquarium of Niagara. The aquarium is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
