BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — This winter storm has been a blast for some in WNY. It was a special treat for animals at the Buffalo zoo, especially polar bears Luna and Sakari.
"It's definitely polar bear weather. I mean Buffalo's great with blizzards, but these guys...are definitely having a lot of fun," said Caitlyn Bruce, animal keeper at the Buffalo Zoo.
After a mild winter, the pair are truly in their element, just in time for Febrauary 27, International Polar Bear Day. A day to raise awareness of the problems these animals face.
"They're not endangered, but threatened. It's one of those things where it could just take a couple of really bad years and all of a sudden, their population could decline very rapidly," said Bruce.
It's also breeding season. Could we expect to see some cubs soon?
"Hopefully," said Bruce. "They do get along very well and they would make very cute cubs."
It’s the perfect weather for #InternationalPolarBearDay! Luna is living her best life. 🐻❄️ @WKBW @buffalozoo pic.twitter.com/QJhwnJvZYc

We won't know if breeding is successful until the cubs actually arrive.
In the meantime, you can stop by the Buffalo Zoo to see the pair. Admission is discounted until February 29th for Polar Bear Days.
