Police: West Seneca man charged after impersonating a police officer

WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A West Seneca man has been charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer and stealing items from a vehicle.

According to West Seneca police, 24-year-old Michael Cantanzaro was observed taking items from a vehicle on Woodcrest Drive just after 9 p.m. Saturday. When confronted, police say he identified himself to the complainant as a police officer.

Police say Cantanzaro then dropped the items and fled in his vehicle towards Dorrance Drive. He was located in his driveway with stolen items.

During the investigation, police say they discovered a Michigan State Police patch and a duty belt with handcuffs and pepper spray in the vehicle.

Cantanzaro has been charged with criminal impersonation of a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny.

He was released on an appearance ticket and is due back at court on a later date.
