AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Town of Amherst held the first public meeting in hopes of gaining input on the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement- -better known as GEIS. This SCOPE is an environmental analysis of what may impact large scale projects in the area--like the Boulevard Mall project.

Community members asked town members about sewers, mixed-use development and traffic. Town Supervisor Brian Kulpa saying the infrastructure within this opportunity zone has been neglected for some time.

"We have this impetus for development and we certainly know with the acquisition of the Boulevard Mall and the Ridge Lee Campus and developments slated to go on there that we need to study our roads, sewer, sidewalks, all of our infrastructure," Supervisor Kulpa said.

The town hopes to adopt a final scoping statement by December of this year. Comments from the public on the draft GEIS are open through June 14th via email bandrzejewski@amherst.ny.us or mail:
