BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Zoos can reopen in Phase 4, the final phase of the coronavirus reopen in New York. Some, like Assemblyman Sean Ryan, are pushing to get The Buffalo Zoo opened earlier.
The zoo’s CEO says, there’s already a vigorous reopen plan in place for keeping everyone safe. .
There’s alreadya zoo in the Syracuse area that’s been allowed to open with restrictions.
“We have an inquiry asking, why and wondering how we can come under that same dispensation,” said Ryan.
The zoo is under tremendous financial stress.
“We're incurring expenses at a very high rate of about $25,000-$30,000 a day," said Norah Fletchall, the zoo’s CEO. "So, the fact that we are not able to welcome our guests right now is a serious burden on our budget.”
If COVID-19 numbers remain low, Phase 4 could begin in Western New York as early as June 30th.
